Position: Health and Safety Advisor
Location: Portishead
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum
Employment type: Full-time, permanent
Our client, a leading construction contractor known for their quality and innovation, is seeking a Health and Safety Advisor to join their team. As a Health and Safety Advisor, you will provide ongoing support to a COMAH site in Portishead. In this role, you will work closely with site management teams, technicians, and client safety teams to ensure compliance with ISO45001 Safety, Quality and Environment Management systems, company policies and procedures. You will also have the opportunity to champion HSEQ initiatives and monitor site safety performance.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting the Production and Engineering Management teams in developing risk assessments and safe systems of work
- Supporting the maintenance of the site's environmental management system and compiling reports aligned with the requirements of the site's Environmental Permit
- Establishing and implementing suitable HSE inspection and auditing programmes, including tracking KPIs and maintaining corrective action databases
- Contributing to the development and delivery of Site Safety Meetings and other Safety communications
- Reviewing, devising, writing, and implementing appropriate health, safety, and environmental procedures
- Providing guidance, coaching, and mentoring to employees on compliance with their legal health and safety duties
- Investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses, and issuing reports to ensure the SHE Incident log is up to date and maintained
- Supporting the delivery of SHE training and managing the competency matrix
- Maintaining competent authority communication logs and completing reports for the competent authority, as applicable
- Ensuring emergency preparedness aligned with the site's COMAH Emergency Plan
- Conducting fire risk assessments
- Identifying cultural and behavioural issues related to the safety management plan and implementing mitigation strategies
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar role(s) in Health and Safety
- Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to make effective decisions
- The ability to communicate with a wide range of people and balance conflicting requirements
- A NEBOSH Certificate as a minimum (NEBOSH Diploma Preferred)
- Prior experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 5 years of experience in High Hazard Industries or Chemicals preferred
- Previous experience in incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis
- Familiarity with Competence and Training Management Systems
- Knowledge of Process Safety, Human Factors, and Behavioural Safety is advantageous
