Plater Welder

Job description

Thorn Baker are currently seeking an experienced Plater Welder with a strong background in structural steel to join our clients growing team in Staveley, Chesterfield. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where you will be involved in a variety of projects within the structural steel sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Fabricate and assemble one off or small batch structural steel pieces.
  • Weld steel parts to exact specifications.
  • Perform quality checks to ensure finished work meets safety and quality standards.
  • Work with minimal supervision, ensuring a high standard of workmanship.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Plater Welder, particularly within the structural steel industry.
  • Strong knowledge of welding techniques, materials, and processes.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
  • Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and stick welding techniques.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards in a workshop environment.
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and as part of a team.
  • A valid welding certification (preferred but not essential).

Benefits:

  • Pay £16ph whilst on probation, this could increase to up to £18ph once permanent dependant on skills.
  • Temp to permanent opportunity
  • Monday to Thursday 6:00am – 16:30pm, Fridays off
  • Friendly, supportive working environment.
