Thorn Baker Industrial Recruitment are looking for an experienced Protyper/Acrylic Fabricator to work for a retail display manufacturer based in Leicester
This position is a straight permanent position
The Job:
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Prototyper / Acrylic Fabricator to the team.
This role involves working closely with designers, engineers, and production staff to bring conceptual designs to life through prototyping and precision acrylic fabrication.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, solution-driven, and experienced in working with a variety of tools and materials — particularly acrylics and plastics.
- Fabricate prototypes and production parts using acrylic and other materials (e.g., ABS, polycarbonate, wood, metal)
- Operate and maintain shop tools such as table saws, laser cutters, CNC routers, sanders, heat benders, and polishers
- Interpret technical drawings, sketches, CAD files, and models to build accurate prototypes
- Collaborate with design and engineering teams to improve prototype functionality and manufacturability
- Assemble complex parts with high attention to visual and functional detail
- Finish and polish acrylic parts using flame polishing, sanding, buffing, and gluing techniques
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, following all safety protocols
- Source materials and contribute to workflow improvements in the prototyping process
About You:
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in acrylic fabrication or model-making (portfolio preferred)
- Strong understanding of material properties and shop safety
- Skilled in working with adhesives, fasteners, and finishing tools specific to plastics
- Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks)
- Familiarity with laser cutters, CNC equipment, or 3D printers is a bonus
- Ability to read technical drawings and translate them into physical builds
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to iterate quickly
- Comfortable working independently and within a team environment
- Excellent attention to detail and craftsmanship
